The most important meal of the day

I hosted my latest CEO Breakfast today. I love these events—a room full of wisdom and great conversation. They demonstrate the value of getting out of our zone once in a while.

Conventional wisdom has it that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I know it gets me off on the right footing. So what better time to gather together an influential group of business leaders for conversation on a topic of general interest.

I like to pick thought provoking subjects. Today, for instance, we discussed embracing crisis as a platform for innovation.

I've been called in to help resolve many a business crisis. I always begin by quoting my favourite definition ...

Crisis n: a time when a difficult or important decision must be made

Take this perspective and it's easy to ditch the negativity take and the opportunity to focus on job 1. The rest gets easier (if not always easy) and I'm always proud of the way teams rise to the occasion.

My last topic—why the CEO owns the Customer experience—went over great guns as well.

I can't wait to plan my next breakfast. In fact, I think I'll start right now!

Get involved

Your challenge this week couldn't be simpler. If you are interesting in hearing about my next breakfast, just reply to this email and let me know. If you're within easy reach of Toronto, I'll send you a personal invitation. If you're not in Toronto, I'll create a video version.
